CHESNEY TO HAVE BROADCAST PRESENCE FOR THE SUPER BOWL

With two friends in the big game, Kenny Chesney will most definitely be heading to Miami for the Super Bowl. And having had a strong connection to ESPN, two of the all sports networks' biggest shows have reached to the 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music and 4-time Country Music Entertainer of the Year to stop by and talk about the upcoming game.

Look for Chesney to be a guest on “Mike & Mike,” where he's a frequent call-in presence, on Friday morning on both ESPN-2 and ESPN Radio. Then tune into a special Super Bowl Sunday edition of “NFL Countdown” Sunday at 1 pm to see Chesney talking about the game, being drafted - and cut - as a New Orleans Saint and, no doubt, the general mayhem in Miami.

“It's not like I'm the definitive voice or anything,” Chesney says of the two stops on ESPN, “but I do think I represent the definitive football fan. Me and the guys watch these games, live and die over who's playing who all season when we're closing out the tour - and this is, obviously, the biggest game of the year… So I love that Golic and Greenberg want me on their show.

“As for 'NFL Countdown,' well, that's like doing the Grammys for football. That's about the best analysis there is… and I'm looking forward to being part of their coverage.”

Chesney got his Super Bowl pregame started early - as No Shoes Radio (www.noshoesradio.com) has been broadcasting daily since Tuesday and carried a live concert by Uncle Kracker Wednesday night - and can't wait to get down to South Florida to get into the action. With editing on his “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-d” in the final stages, he's been working double shifts trying to be able to get out of town and just have a good time.

“You'd never believe how much work goes into something like this,” he laughs. “But once you're in, you can't just stop. So as much as I wanted to be down at the pool with Uncle Kracker, I've been in an edit bay, cutting film, changing shots - cause when the wheels go up tonight for Miami, I wanna be able to just forget about everything and enjoy some football!

“I know this year's Super Bowl is gonna be a great game. I'm not gonna bet on it, but I wouldn't want to… and that's half the fun of it! So I'm gonna get up early Friday, go hang with Mike & Mike and then have so much fun I'm gonna be ready to get back to work on the film on Monday!”

RASCAL  FLATTS GET WITH THEIR BEST FRIENDS...SONGWRITERS!

Image
cf.com
Rascal Flatts hosted a party at the Musicians Hall of Fame Wednesday in Nashville to honor the 77 songwriters who contributed songs to their first six albums.  The guys joked that they had ulterior motives for the party because they are working on a new album, so they had a two song minimum for the writers to get in and were asking them to drop their song ideas into a box as they came through the door.
During the party the writers of eight of Rascal Flatts’ 11 number one songs got up and performed those songs in a “writers in the round” style setting.

2010 marks the 10th anniversary for the Rascal Flatts in the music business and they have A LOT in store for the year, including TV, a possible movie, a new album, a celebratory summer tour, an appearance on a reality show, new commercials for Hershey’s, a tie-in to the 2010 Winter Olympics and more. First up they will be on an upcoming episode of CSI, which will air on March 4th on CBS.  The guys didn’t want to give too much away, but they did say there is an attempted murder on Jay, who gets electrocuted during the show. And Gary mentioned to me as he was walking out of the room, “we’re working on another movie, a mini-series in the spring.”  When I asked their publicist about this she told me it was something that was still in the works, but said, “like I said, they have A LOT of interesting things that will be happening this year.”  So stay tuned.

ONE OTHER RASCAL FLATTS NOTE:

FILMING A NEW HERSHEY'S COMMERCIAL NEXT WEEK

Gary “Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we'll be in L.A. shooting the new Hershey's commercial.”

Jay “We got to write the song for it.”

Gary “Yeah, we did.  We wrote the song for it this year.”

Jay “And it doesn't have a title, so don't ask us what it is.  We just called it
'The Hershey's Commercial' because we can't figure out what to call it.”

CARRIE UNDERWOOD PILING UP GREAT STUFF

ImageYou could say that Carrie Underwood is on a roll. On the heels of picking up her 5th Grammy award, she's headed toward another amazing weekend as she performs the national anthem for Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIV, then she did some winning of her own, scoring #1 video on iTunes with “Temporary Home.”

iTunes debuted the powerful video yesterday with a two-day exclusive, February 2 and 3, and “Temporary Home” will hit the broadcast airwaves when it makes its television debut February 4 in Hot Shot rotation on CMT and in Turbo rotation on GAC.

Fans can read about Carrie 'cause she's on the cover of the March issue of Cosmopolitan, on stands early this month, with an Allure cover feature hitting stands for their April issue.

Taylor Swift is full of glee about the TV show "Glee" that is.
Taylor has been spotted lately hanging out with Cory Monteith, who plays the jock character Finn on the TV show Glee.  According to Perez Hilton they had dinner together last week before hitting some Grammy parties.  There’s no word on whether the two are dating or just friends, but according to MTV UK, Taylor would love to make a guest appearance on Glee.  She says, “I'm really loving Glee right now.  If it did happen, I'd love to see what they would do with me.”

TAYLOR'S TRIP A BREAK FROM CONSTANT SPOTLIGHT

When Taylor has finished her Australia tour, she'll be headed to Japan, which will take her out of the U.S. spotlight for a while. And considering her omni presence of late, that's a good thing. Her label head, Scott Borchetta says, "The next time you see her will likely be on the ACM awards show.  During that time, we're going to have a new video, but as far as the talking head of Taylor Swift, that one's gone into hiding for a little bit, at least on this continent."
But he does add, "as much as you try to pull back, there are some things you can't stop. We can't stop Us Weekly from snapping a picture of her and putting it on the cover."  Taylor will kick off her sold-out North American tour on March 4th and she’ll continue working on her next album, with the first single expected to be released in late summer or early fall, followed by the album in late 2010.  You can watch Taylor’s “Grammy-cam” footage on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today.

STEVE WARINER TAKES HIS GOOD VIBE TO THE COUNTRY VIBE

Chet Atkins had a real protege in Steve Wariner. He loved Steve's guitar playing  so much he took Steve on the road with him on his one man magical guitar show, except for some accompaniment by Steve.
Then Chet would let Steve step out front to show what he could do which was plenty good.
So, it was altogether fitting that Steve was uniquely qualified to have paid tribute to Chet Atkins with lovingly authentic tribute to his mentor with the release of his “Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute To Chet Atkins.”

And you're likely to hear some of Steve's musical tribute to Chet and other stuff when he visits this week on this week’s edition of The Country Vibe with Chuck and Becca.

During the show you'll hear a track from the CD, “Producer’s Medley,” that won him a recent GRAMMY for Best Instrumental Performance. It was his fourth GRAMMY award.

The Country Vibe with Chuck and Becca can be seen on:
AMG-TV, Fridays at 6:30 p.m. (EST)
Untamed Sports, Saturdays at 10 p.m., Sundays at 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 12:30 a.m. (EST)

“It was great to get back together with George and his bunch for the opening of the Dallas Cowboy Stadium in Dallas, TX last August,” notes Reba on what initially spurred discussions of a full-blown co-headlining tour together.  “Usually, after my show, we leave for either home or the next city on the tour.  But that night after the show, George threw a party and to get into that party, you had to wear a wig!!!  There were plenty of wigs to choose from.  I picked a huge, curly, platinum wig and George had on short dread locks with a visor.  You talk about incognito!!!!  It was a fun party.  Blake Shelton and I got up and sang Karaoke too!”  The party continued on the opening weekend of the superstars 2010 tour, as Reba hosted a backstage party for the bands and crews.

JUSTIN MOORE SEEING CYCLE OF LIFE PLAY OUT IN FRONT OF HIS EYES

This season Justin Moore is experiencing the loss of his grandfather and aunt, while at the same time anticipating the birth of his daughter Ella Kole.  Asked how he’s dealt with the rollercoaster of emotions., he said,  “We always say ‘things happen for a reason, but we don't understand sometimes why’ and it is so true,” says Justin.

“Ella coming along was a huge shock for us, and quite honestly, we didn't know if we were ready for that in our lives yet.  But, I truly believe now her pending arrival was placed here to fill the void of losing those two individuals.  I will carry them in my heart always, and strive to make then proud cause I know they are watching over me.”  While Justin’s current loud-and-proud anthem “Backwoods” is screaming up the charts, another track from his debut album, “Grandpa” [an ode to his grandfathers], is gaining attention as it appears on this week’s BigChampagne Top 30 chart measuring internet download demand.

CHESNEY'S INTERNET RADIO HEADS TO BEACH FOR PRE-SUPERBOWL PARTY...INCLUDES KRACKER LIVE

ImageKenny Chesney with  ramp up for the The Super Bowl live from Miami via his No Shoes Radio. Well-known love of the water, the man hard at work on his “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-D” film figured what better way to ramp up to the Super Bowl than to go live with No Shoes Radio from the Surfcomber in South Beach.

“I try to bring the fans into my music… into my life,” confesses the songwriter who wrote the hits “Beer In Mexico,” “I Go Back” and even Rascal Flatts' #1 “Take Me There” about what drives him. “The cool part about No Shoes Radio is it puts people right in the vibe of my life, what we're listening to… where we're going… what the moments might hold.” Several of the songs listed above and many more are on his Greatest Hits II album available now.

And from February 2-4, look for NSR to go live for a few hours a day from poolside at the legendary Surfcomber to bring the vibe that is the pre-party anticipation. Exact times are being worked out - and will be updated as they lockdown on www.noshoesradio.com, Twitter and Facebook -- but tentatively are 5-7pm  EST on Tuesday and 11 a.m.-2 am on Thursday and then starting at 8 pm on Wednesday and going live straight until Uncle Kracker takes the stage.

“Miami is strictly VIP, invitation only,” says Chesney. “But we're gonna take my friends - by way of No Shoes Radio - to hang out by way of No Shoes Radio. There'll be people stopping by… a party going on… and all of the post-long-day-in-the-sun vibe that is South Beach in full swing. I can't get you in, but that doesn't mean I can't bring you along.”

Also, with “Ain't Back Yet” hitting country radio Feb. 8, it won't be long until America gets its first taste of “Kenny Chesney: Summer in 3-D.”  The song about being bit by your great passion and what you give up in its pursuit is a story a lot of people will relate to.

Image
cf.com
Each week Blake Shelton has been producing a video series called Take 6 Tuesday, where he reveals random top six lists.  This week Blake discusses “the top six words that should NEVER be used in a country song.”  A couple of them we can’t discuss, but some of the words include synergy, because Blake says, “I don’t know what the hell that means.”

Pewaukee, a town in Wisconsin, that Blake thinks sounds like a bad combination of words.  He never wants to hear Skankalicious.  He says, “I’m not saying it shouldn’t be in a song, I just don’t think it’s appropriate for country music.”  And finally Blake says never, ever use the word badonkadonk in a country song.  He says, “Yes, Trace, I said it.  I don’t think you should have said that word in a country song.”

JOSH THOMPSON CELEBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY WITH TWO STANDING OVATIONS

Wisconsin native Josh Thompson returned home this past weekend, and celebrated his birthday with friends from WMIL Milwaukee at their “Class of 2010” concert.  Before he began his set, WMIL and the “moo crew” morning jocks surprised Thompson with a custom-made Pabst Blue Ribbon cake, while the sold-out crowd stood to sing him “Happy Birthday.”  “It was awesome to have our hometown hero in town to celebrate his birthday.  It was a great feeling seeing 500 people sing to Josh,” says Kerry Wolfe, Clear Channel Milwaukee Dir. of Programming.

Thompson played songs from the upcoming February 23 release of his debut album, Way Out Here, of which Thompson wrote or co-wrote every track including his Top 20 “Beer On The Table.”   Immediately following his set, the crowd stood once again – this time to give his performance a standing ovation.   The “kick ass performance had the crowd singing along to every word,” Wolfe adds. “I hope Josh comes home every January 23rd to celebrate with Milwaukee!”

Having won nearly 40 major awards trophies in the first decade of their career, Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney will gather early next week to celebrate the more than seventy-five songwriters who have contributed their creative talent to the band’s 6 previously released studio albums.

“It all starts with a song, we’ve believed that from day one,” said Jay DeMarcus. “We are so grateful and humbled by the fact that so many of Nashville's finest song writers have been with us on this incredible ride. We've lent our voices to some of these songs that have, quite literally, changed people’s lives.  What an enormous blessing.  This is just our small way of saying thanks for an incredible first ten years and then, toasting to the next ten!”

Among those to be honored include the seventeen writers of Rascal Flatts 11 #1 singles, including Blair Daly, Marcus Hummon, Wendell Mobley, Jeffrey Steele, and Neil Thrasher.

KEVIN FOWLER SIGNS TO LYRIC STREET RECORDS

Lyric Street Records and Triple 8 Management gathered in Waco, Texas over the weekend to celebrate the signing of Kevin Fowler to the label’s artist roster prior to his show at The Heart of Texas Complex. A native of Amarillo, Texas, Fowler is an all-around artist who rocks his distinctive brand of southern country from the stage, winning devoted fans with such crowd favorites as “Beer Season” and “Best Mistake I Ever Made,” and delivers solidly as a songwriter, with such credits that include Montgomery Gentry’s recording “Long Line Of Losers” and George Jones’ recording “Beer, Bait And Ammo.”

With an already established loyal fanbase in the Southwest that has allowed him to sell more than 325,000 albums, and, in 2009 alone, over 180,000 hard tickets as a headlining act, Lyric Street Records is set to launch Fowler to country radio and retail at a national level.

Kevin Fowler’s first music on Lyric Street Records is expected this Spring.

MIRANDA'S "WHITE LIARS" GIVES TWO PEOPLE SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE, MIRANDA AND NATALIE

SONGWRITER, Natalie Hemby hasn't slept much lately and she doesn't care! The young woman who wrote Lee Ann Womack's critically heralded “The Bees,” the title track to Carrie Underwood's new Play On and the Eli Young Band's “Making A Mystery” lands her very first #1 country single - Miranda Lambert's “White Liar” - also becoming her first #1 record.

“I was texting Miranda all night…I was calling radio stations late at night… into the final hours,” Hemby confesses without a laugh. “Even if it wasn't my song, I wanted this so bad for Miranda. She deserved a #1 because she's so talented and wonderful and such a good girl.”

Hemby also co-wrote “Only Prettier,” “Airstream Song” and “Virginia Bluebell” to Lambert's Revolution, which is garnering some of the strongest in a career of critical acclaim.
“I knew that Miranda, who is so talented, was a huge deal,” Henby explains. “I knew she could do it all herself, so I just wanted to figure out what I could add or fill in to what she was doing. I have this little Miranda vault with ideas and lines that I think would fit her… you know, 'like only prettier…,' which is clever and funny just like her.

KEITH URBAN CMT CROSSROADS TAPING A MUST SEE SHOW

ImageOur colleague, Becca Walls, attended last night's taping of the CMT Crossroads scheduled for airing this Spring, featuring KEITH URBAN and JOHN MAYER.

She reports the combination of their kindred spirits was "magical," as they exchanged and shared vocals and guitar licks on songs like Keith’s “Til Summer Comes Around,” “Sweet Thing,” “Tonight I Wanna Cry” and “If Ever I Could Love”, and several of John’s songs including “Perfectly Lonely” and “Gravity.”

One of their coolest interludes won't be seen on air. At one point while Keith and John were getting make-up touch ups, they broke out into a very cool, impromptu, instrumental version of “Folsom Prison Blues.”  During another make-up break the two guys started noodling on their guitars and ended up playing the theme from Pink Panther.  John complimented Urban saying,

“There’s something fun about meeting your match.  I’m flying high tonight with someone who can speak the language and I’m just having a blast.”  The Keith/John Crossroads will air sometime this spring on CMT.

LADY A HANDLED THE SOPHOMORE ALBUM  PRESSURE

Image
cf.com
After the huge success that came from their debut album, Lady Antebellum didn't seemed concerned about the "Sophomore Jinx" as they began work on their second album.  They told us, "We approached this record the same way we did the first one, we like how we tackled the first one, we cut in two halves taking the whole year to cut a little bit at the beginning of the year and the rest at the end of the year. We felt the pressure was on and we knew a lot of people would be watching, and we didn't take that lightly, but we just kept our heads down and wrote songs that we loved and just kept doing our thing hoping people will keep responding to it."

LADY A's new one, NEED YOU KNOW, hit stores today...and they're offering some cool things for those that buy the album.
Lady A is offering fans who purchase either the physical or the digital album of Need You Now one bonus track each month in 2010, with the first track available yesterday, Jan. 26.

MATT KENNON'S POWERFUL SINGLE "THE CALL"...CALLS UP MEMORIES FOR MATT

Newcomer, Matt Kennon grew up know that he came this close to never existing. His mother discovered she was pregnant with him after her marriage broke up and both his birth father and mom thought she should abort the pregnancy. When she tried, the baby was too far along and she had to carry Matt to term. Although he was raised by loving adoptive parents, knowing his past caused emotion scars he's come to terms because they, in effect, had saved him.
And, it was that life experience that led to writing his single, "The Call.

He tells us,  "You know growing up life can throw you some curves and you can hit a low point in life where I think you can hear a whisper in your ear that says you need a helping hand and a friend or you need to know that somebody cares and that's where song stems from...it's knowing that you're not alone, that whatever you're going through is temporary and this too will pass...make the most of life."  He adds, “I don’t want to sing about anything that
I haven’t been through, it’s honest and it’s real."
