Prior to his Dec. 29th concert  at the newly renovated Hard Rock Cafe Nashville, Bucky Covington presented the Arthritis Foundation (Tennessee Chapter) with a check for the $25,000 that he won earlier this year on CMT’s “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"

All of the proceeds from last night’s show will benefit the Arthritis Foundation (Tennessee Chapter), which serves all 95 counties across the state and is actively working to better the lives of the 1.5 million adults and over 6,000 children in Tennessee with this disease. Presented by ASCAP, the concert is a part of Hard Rock’s series of special events and week-long live music series leading up to New Year’s Eve to celebrate the venue's grand re-opening.

Following the presentation, Bucky took the stage to join in the venue’s countdown to 2010 celebration then energized the crowd with his always energetic performance that now includes  his Top 10 hits “It’s Good To Be Us,” “I’ll Walk,” “A Different World” and the new track “Mexicoma” from his forthcoming sophomore album I’m Alright.

Taylor Swift is no longer a teen: The country superstar marked turning 20 with a Christmas-themed birthday party for friends, her band and her tour crew at her family's home in Hendersonville, Tenn.  "It's more like an end-of-year Christmas party that happens to be on my birthday," says Swift, who spent the night before at home, baking butter cookies and gingerbread cookies with cream-cheese icing for her guests.  The biggest gift came from Swift herself. Taylor has donated $250,000 to schools around the country that she's either attended or worked with. The money will pay teachers' salaries as well as buy books and fund various educational programs.

"Something I wanted to do at the end of this amazing year and especially on my birthday was give back to something I really believe in, which is education," says Swift. "The schools that I went to and the amazing people I got to learn from really turned me into who I am, and I wanted to give back."

STEEL MAGNOLIA LOOK BACK AND LOOK FOWARD TO BIG YEAR

Steel Magnolia has a fast jump forward after talent show win. Just four months after winning CMT CAN YOU DUET, Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey already can claim a Top 25 single and a hit video.

We asked the duo to put into words what it feels like to see their dreams coming true together, and what was their highlight of 2009.  “To be able to sit back as the year winds down and finally get a chance to look up and see where we sit on the charts is truly satisfying,” notes Josh.  “I think it is finally sinking in now that we have a place here and we belong.  We are most proud of the fact that we have cracked the top 25 in a short time, and we have had the chance to work with some phenomenal talent.”  Josh continues: “To be able to do this whole thing together may make things a little easier out of the gates because it is always better to get thrown into something unknown with a partner to lean on.”

ALSO, This one from the ironic file: Steel Magnolia’s Meghan Linsey’s image is still traveling around Nashville on Lonnie’s Karaoke bar van!  While usually country singers photos are only found on radio station vans, Meghan might be able to one-up all the other artists: her years as a Nashville Karaoke singer before being discovered landed her face on the bar’s van.

JACK INGRAM FEELING ‘FREE

Jack Ingram’s new single is a song entitled “Free”, the first track on his latest album Big Dreams & High Hopes.  Asked a bout the song, Jack said what led him to record this Jay Joyce-produced song, Jack says, “I'm a big fan of straight forward, say what you mean and get to the heart of the matter,” says Jack.  “And I look for songs that make me want to sing along. That's what Jay Knowles and Trent Summar do!”  Jack’s new single will ship to Country radio on January 11th.

JEWEL'S NEW ONE OUT TODAY

Jewel’s new single, “Stay Here Forever” (available today 1/4; impacting 1/19) will be included in the upcoming feature film Valentine’s Day, starring an ensemble cast including Big Machine’s Taylor Swift in her first feature film role.  Jewel’s single will also be included on the movie’s soundtrack.  Jewel’s first Country single, “Stronger Woman,” was launched exactly two years ago this month.  The song went on to become her breakthrough Country hit, and led the way for her #1-selling album Perfectly Clear.  Check back soon for more information on the movie soundtrack and the songs included.

JIMMY WAYNE WALKING AMERICA

Jimmy Wayne launched his “Meet Me Halfway” campaign on January 1, 2010 where he kicked off his solo walk halfway across America in Nashville, TN.  Wayne’s intention is not only to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless, especially at risk children, teens and young adults, but also raise funds for organizations that benefit homeless youth, including HomeBase Youth Services, a Phoenix, AZ -- based organization that provides essentials for homeless young adults. With the support of Valory staffers, fans, and Congressman Jim Cooper, Jimmy departed Monroe Harding in Nashville, another organization that services at risk children and young adults. He plans to walk to Phoenix, AZ.  “I realize beginning a mission like this in the dead of winter and walking through the middle of the country is going to be difficult, but I hope and pray I am up to the challenge,” Wayne said. “It’s going to be cold, rainy and maybe even snowing and that ground I sleep on at night is going to be really hard. But that’s what the homeless are dealing with each and every winter they go without a home of their own.  Our country is too great for us to have people who are suffering so.  And events of the past 12 to 14 months have increased the number of people—especially children and young adults—without a safe place to sleep. We as a nation have got to end homelessness and we've got to help these kids.”

MORE ON REBA RETURNS TO #1 SPOT ON COUNTRY SINGLES CHARTS

Country radio delivered a big Christmas present to Reba as the superstar’s single, “Consider Me Gone,” soared to the #1 position on both the Billboard Country Songs chart and the Mediabase Top Country Singles chart Monday, December 21st.  And, with the final numbers released for Monday, December 28th charts, Reba discovered that the song held onto the #1 spot for second week.

JUSTIN MOORE LIVES HIS MUSIC BY GOING BACKWOODS
Justin Moore’s new single “Backwoods” just cracked the Top 30, and during the recent Thanksgiving holiday the Arkansas native lived that song by camping in a deer stand and hunting.  In fact, Justin lives the lifestyle described in the lyrics every day.  Country music has always painted lyrical pictures of life and its ups and downs, so we asked Justin why he feels his music is connecting so well.  “I think as a songwriter, you're best at writing about what you know,” ponders Justin.  “I think that's because, if you've lived it, it's more real.  With that said, the fans can tell if you're genuine or not.  I think we've connected because I live what I write, and write what I live.”  Justin kicks off his run on Brad Paisley’s 2010 American Saturday Night Tour next weekend in San Antonio.
