CHESNEY TOUR ONLY COUNTRY TOUR IN POLLSTAR'S TOP TEN OF '09, RANKS #2 MOST ATTENDED, and #3 HIGHEST EARNING PERFORMER OF THE NEW CENTURY
CF.COM If you wondered why Kenny Chesney is taking a breather from touring this year, well, maybe he just doesn't have a whole more to prove in that arena and deserves a rest.
You see, Kenny is the only country act in Pollstar's Top Tours of 2009's Top 10 - finishing at #6 with a gross of $71.1 million, Keith Urban being next at #16 - but more impressively, after only 8 of the new century's first 10 years spent as a headliner, the high energy performer still came in as the #2 most attended and #3 highest earning tour of the 21st century's first decade. Granted 5 of those years saw Kenny Chesney headlining multiple NFL stadiums, but it's still an achievement he finds staggering.
“I remember how good it felt when I was selling out small halls and bars, and you can tell everyone “I sold the show out…,” Chesney says with a laugh. “You know that idea that there are no more tickets left, no matter how small the venue, it's exciting - and you can feel it in the crowd. So, when you start playing bigger and bigger places, you want to keep that… the energy you have, and the excitement when you hear you've gone clean in a venue.
“But even as you're hearing that stuff, there's still some sense of, well, it's not real. You sell out Boston's Patriot Stadium in Foxboro 5 years in a row - it's not ho-hum…. and it's still more things people say than real until you walk out onstage, hear the crowd and go, 'WOW!' Because in a weird way, these numbers - especially to a guy from Luttrell who thought they had it made playing the Turf in Nashville one New Year's Eve - are surreal.”
RASCAL FLATTS CELEBRATE TEN YEARS OF SUCCESS
The first time Rascal Flatts won a Vocal Group Award over Alabama, they tried to give the award to Alabama in tribute to their colossal career. At that time Alabama had dominated the category for nearly 20 years and scored so many #1 songs that few groups will ever challenge their accomplishments. Except for RASCAL FLATTS who now celebrate 10 years as the dominate country vocal group.
Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney are kicking off 2010 with a bang as they mark not only the beginning of a new decade but also celebrate ten years of making great music together, becoming one of the hottest touring acts and the top country group of the new millennium. It started in 2000 with the release of Rascal Flatts first single, “Prayin’ For Daylight,” and self-titled debut album. Fast forward ten years and Rascal Flatts has delivered 11 #1 singles to the top of the chart and have more titles in Billboard’s Top 100 Songs of the Decade than any other group in the format. Over ten years the band has sold more than 20 million albums and 25 million digital downloads while all six of their studio albums make Billboard’s Top 100 Country Albums of the Decade listing. Rascal Flatts’ Me And My Gang and Feels Like Today also make an appearance on Billboard’s all-genre Top 200 Albums of the Decade chart. As the most awarded country group of the new millenium Rascal Flatts has brought home nearly 40 trophies from the Academy of Country Music, American Music Awards, Country Music Association, People’s Choice Awards and more. Gary, Jay and Joe Don have traveled to visit U.S. troops in Iraq on a USO Tour and partnered with the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee to raise over 3 million dollars in the past few years Throughout the new year, Rascal Flatts will mark this milestone with the people who have contributed to the band’s first decade of success. ZAC BROWN BAND AND JOHN BROWN COLLABORATE ON ZAC BROWN COOK BOOK
Rootsy, southern, Americana artist John Brown, has created a career of music and word, branded it "Plowology,'' and is re-introducing it into the culinary circle with his contributions to the Zac Brown & Friends cookbook, SOUTHERN GROUND: Recipes, Images, Lifestyle, and Lore, available in Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores for the public to sample and savor now. John Brown's mission of drawing us all together with "peace, love, and ... barbecue," and leading folks "back home to themselves" is authentically accomplished with his simple selections of homegrown poems, stories and song lyrics included in the book. While all fine Southern recipes call for flour, butter, sugar, and salt, Brown's require dirt, rain, sun, faith, and grace. Each excerpt from the book should be experienced and enjoyed with sweet tea and biscuits, as the visual prose elicits gravel roads, lonesome trees, the sea, and a front porch life--unplugged.
Using art to spread a message of healing and hope, Brown is taking his show back to his hometown of Goldsboro, N.C. on April 10, 2010 to unveil his event, Along the Way: A Homecoming, at the Paramount Theater. Armed with a bus filled with top Nashville songwriters and artists, the show will benefit the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, an organization very personal to Brown, his family and community. Recent hit-maker Kim Tribble ("One In Every Crowd" Montgomery Gentry, "Whistlin' Dixie" Randy Houser, "A Feelin' Like That" Gary Allan) is confirmed to perform at the event; others writers on the bill will be announced at a later date. JIMMY WAYNE OFF ON WALK ACROSS AMERICA TOUR
CF.COM Following a private meeting with the young residents of Monroe Harding in Nashville, Jimmy Wayne kicked off his Meet Me Halfway project, and began his walk halfway across the country to raise awareness of homeless children, teens and young adults who age out of the foster care system. Approximately 100 people gathered on the front lawn of Monroe Harding on New Year’s Day to support Wayne, and nearly 75 people joined him on the first mile of his walk, which will end in Phoenix, Arizona. Wayne’s intention is to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless, especially at risk children, teens and young adults in the foster care system. He also wants to raise funds for organizations that benefit homeless youth, including HomeBase Youth Services, a Phoenix, AZ-- based organization that provides essentials for homeless young adults and Monroe Harding, a foster care group home in Nashville. The Valory Music Co. kicked things off by donating $50,000 to the Meet Me Halfway project. ALAN JACKSON IS "JUST THAT WAY"
cf.com If you wonder why Alan Jackson has remained a humble, folksy, sometimes shy, superstar, well he's just that way and his music reflects it. Alan's latest single, "It's Just That Way," is vintage Jackson and the tune is impacting at radio now.
