KENNY CHESNEY DEBUTS "BOYS OF FALL" FROM HEMINGWAY'S WHISKEY

When “Boys of Fall,” by Casey Beathard and Dave Tumbill, landed in a stack of tapes Kenny Chesney was listening to for his next record, he was stunned by the way the song captured the essence of something he loved so much: all the moments, the details, the heart and especially the lessons learned from  playing high school football.

“I just stopped right there, and played it over and over again,” Chesney says of the song. “I knew - as maybe only someone who has felt that thrill of rushing out onto the field on a cold Friday night can - that was exactly how it is… and it also gives you a sense of why playing football in high school is such a powerful thing for anyone who does it. It's life changing; it just is - and for anyone who's never experienced that, this song helps them understand why.”

The track, a ballad with a certain energy, evolved from a song that defined how Chesney grew up and grew into one of the 21st century's biggest music stars to something more. The video for the lead track from his Sept. 28 release Hemingway's Whiskey - featuring New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton delivering a heartfelt speech to the team where the 2010 Superbowl-winning coach spent his own high school football career - had so much power, it wasn't long before Chesney's year off became balanncing the Sony Motion Pictures national theatrical release “Summer in 3-D,” sessions for his new album and work on a powerful documentary featuring many of football's greatest players and coaches addressing the power of the game in shaping their sense of discipline, humanity and dreams.

“The thing about all of it - the song, the video, the documentary, it's not just about people who play football and go onto be Joe Namath or Kirk Herbstreit, it's about the Moms driving their kids to practice, and the way this'll shape the men their sons will become… the girls who come to the games and cheer - and are part of why the boys want to achieve… It's about the towns who identify with the fate of their team so heavily, it's a topic of conversation at the diner or the barber shop… and the players who won't play past high school, but use the lessons they learn to become successful as their lives evolve.

KENNY AND THE STEVE MILLER BAND DEBUT ON CMT TONIGHT

Kenny Chesney and The Steve Miller Band take the stage for Friday night’s premiere of the newest installment of CMT’s hit series,Crossroads. For Kenny — who was grooving to the band’s classic Greatest Hits all through high school and beyond — having his career bring him to the point where he’s been able to get to know and perform with Steve has been a really cool and special experience.
Kenny Chesney never thought his life would bring him to a point of being on stage with Steve Miller.

“When I was in high school, I think all four years, and even into college, I know there was one CD that was a mainstay, and it was Steve Miller’s Greatest Hits. And I had that…I listened to his music all the time and never thinkin’ my life was gonna turn out into a place where I would share the stage with him and sing with him.
The first time I met Steve he came to our show in San Francisco. We played AT&T Park, where the Giants play out there, and he showed up at our soundcheck, and he came the next night, and we played a lot of music together that night, and that’s where that friendship was born. And never in my life did I think that I would ever be in…like I said, ever meet him, much less become really good friends with him and collaborate on stage, and it’s really special.”

JOE NICHOLS RELEASES "THE SHAPE I'M IN"

Joe Nichols, country's most authentic modern country, country singer,  just released his new single, “The Shape I’m In,” was written by the same trio that penned his recent three week #1 smash hit “Gimmie That Girl.”  Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip, otherwise known as the Peach Pickers, also wrote Nichols’ newest release “The Shape I’m In.”  Both songs are found on the artist’s critically acclaimed CD Old Things New.

“It's a natural fit,” said Nichols. “Same writers and same feel with the production as ‘Gimmie that Girl,’ plus, I'm a big fan of the Muscle Shoals groove/sound, and this song lends itself to that sound. It also has a ‘feeling good’ lyric. Definitely my kind of song.”

Lee Brice has scored his first ever Top 10 single with “Love Like Crazy,” the title track to his just released debut CD. While the recording artist is no stranger to hit songs from a songwriter’s perspective (he penned Garth Brooks’ “More Than a Memory,” a song that actually entered the charts at #1, as well as Tim McGraw’s hit “Still”), Brice says it’s an entirely different feeling when you hit that section of the charts as a recording artist.

“When this song hit Top 20, I remember thinking, it just can't get any better than this,” Brice said. “But it did. To have a song break through the Top 10 is just an incredible feeling. I hope I get to experience what a Top 5 feels like!"
