ERIC CHURCH A HIGH PRIEST OF COUNTRY

There’s a rapidly growing legion of fans that are worshipping at the Church of Eric...and watching his musical sermon recently as the main opening act for Toby Keith’s Locked and Loaded tour, you understood, very quickly, why the fans at that show loved his musical revelations.

It’d been a while since we’d seen Eric’s own show...he was alway damn good, but he’s moved on to huge. Toby has made a habit of bringing along  top  tier stars like Trace Adkins and others, to open his shows, and Church did his job to fire the crowd up for Keith with an explosive show of his own. Eric simply put, ROCKED THE JOINT, with one fiery song after another delivered with his powerful country voice and good ol’ country boy looks that made the fans feel they were partying with a good ‘ol friend or family member. Church doesn’t rely on a lot of patter between songs, he carries on the most eloquent conversation he could with his crowd every time he strummed that first note and sang the first words of his country boy songs. If you haven’t seen the Eric Church show recently, be sure you do if he’s coming your way any time soon. Great show, great time watching this great country star.

FORMER GODHEAD FRONT MAN HAS CURRENT SERIOUS COUNTRY CAREER

One of the featured side-stage performers at Toby Keith’s concert in Irvine, California this past weekend, was former Rock group Godhead’s front man, Jason Charles Miller, who has launched a serious country music career. And, one listen to his new music makes you think he’ll make it.

Jason grew up on a broad range of music including  country (“I collected records by Merle Haggard and others,” he tells us). Now, after the breakup of Godhead, Jason tells us he just naturally returned to his country roots and began writing country material. “I just totally re-imersed myself into the country music I grew up with, and started writing,” he explains. Jason has been dividing his time between the West coast and Nashville where he’s been writing his face off including writing songs with a member of Toby’s team. “I actually write now with Toby’s band leader and bass player, Chuck (Goff).”

Interesting thing, his cool first single is titled, “Uncountry.”

He explains, “The first single is going to be “Uncountry,” and that’s really the story of my life...15 years of laying my head on another stranger’s floor. It’s all about maybe the things I did in a rock and roll band are country to me. I’m on the road like a trucker, you’re humping gear, it’s not glamorous at all. In the beginning  you don’t have roadies, it’s just a bunch of guys stuffed in a van. So, that’s kind of my answer to people that say I’m not country.”

The roof of  that will come from his audience and country radio but we predict it will work. He’s a consummate pro, veteran singer and writer, with a genuine feel and love for the country music he writes and sings that he hopes will define him from this point on. In addition to a strong, great-sounding voice his songs are as country contemporary as anybody out there right now.
