KEITH URBAN LOTS TO CELEBRATE
cf.com Keith Urban has hit #1 on the Country Singles Chart yet again. His latest, “Only You Can Love Me This Way,” marks the 11th time he has hit the top spot and is the second #1 from his CMA nominated, Billboard Country and Top 200 #1 CD Defying Gravity. The CD’s first single, “Sweet Thing” also hit #1. It has been quite a month for Urban, the 5-time CMA nominee, who amongst other nominations received a nod for Entertainer and Male Vocalist of the Year. Just twelve days ago he played his 2nd sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York City, a concert event, which came the evening before he officially closed out the North American leg of his critical hailed sold-out “Escape Together World Tour.” Then, just days after returning home to Nashville, Urban received a nomination from the American Music Awards for Favorite Male Country Artist. But nothing could’ve topped the success of the landmark “We’re All For The Hall” concert, which Urban hosted, to benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Urban is set to perform on the CMAs before heading down under for the Australian leg of his “Escape Together World Tour.”
BRAD PAISLEY FEELS BLESSED FOR GOOD YEAR
cf.com Brad Paisley tells us that he's very grateful and blessed with the loyalty of his fans over the last few years...but much more so this year in the midst of our struggling economy. That's because business on the road this year was way up for him.
"We're doing fine, business is really up from last year, we're up 30% from last year, it's ridiculous," Brad says. "And I say every night a special thanks to the people that are there, 'I can't imagine you're doing this given the times we're in.'"
Brad agrees that during tough times people tend to spend money on something that will lighten their load and make them feel good instead of that big vacation they might've taken.
"Yeah, the may not go to the Caribbean, but they're coming to concerts," Brad notes.
VIDEO FOR BLAKE SHELTON’S NEW SINGLE “HILLBILLY BONE” TO PREMIERE OCTOBER 30TH...CO-STARS TRACE ADKINS
The video for Blake Shelton’s brand-new single “Hillbilly Bone” will premiere exclusively on Yahoo! Music on October 30th. The music video single will be available for purchase on iTunes beginning November 3rd. The video stars Shelton and his long-time friend Trace Adkins, who duets with Shelton on the track. “I had the best day shooting this video with Trace. He has been a great friend for many years and for him to take time out and come down and play a hillbilly with me was so cool. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Trace is one funny guy,” Shelton said. "Blake and I have been great friends for a long time now,” Adkins says. “He is hands-down, one of the funniest guys I know, so doing this song and video with him was really a no-brainer." Fans should keep their eye on www.blakeshelton.com for behind-the-scenes photos and video footage that will begin to appear on the site beginning October 19th and continue up until the video’s Yahoo! Music premiere. “Hillbilly Bone” is currently streaming at www.blakeshelton.com.
JOE NICHOLS' NEW ALBUM REFLECTS A NEW JOE NICHOLS
Tom Roland writes in CMA Closeup, "With the release of his sixth album Old Things New on Oct. 27, Nichols challenges all the old ideas about who he is, mostly by challenging himself in ways he’s never done before. After putting a self-defeating relationship with alcohol behind him, the 2003 CMA Horizon Award winner found that his engagement with his music had changed dramatically."
Roland says the changes are documented on this new album, "His voice grew more confident, his performances more connective. He undertook his first tour of Australia in February, his first appearances for U.S. troops in Iraq in June, and he has agreed to star for the first time on Broadway with a theatrical version of the George Strait musical “Pure Country,” expected to open in early 2010.
“I’m just more open to doing that stuff now than I ever have been,” Nichols said during a sunny afternoon chat at Universal Records South. Touring Australia, for example, “would have scared the hell out of me before. I’d probably be like, ‘I don’t want to go down there and mess with Australia. My God, what do we have in common with them?’ That’s the kind of stupid stuff I’d probably say.”
CARRIE UNDERWOOD MAKES PROMOTIONAL VISIT TO SOUTHEAST ASIA
cf.com Carrie Underwood was in Singapore last week visiting with Asian media and promoting her upcoming album release, PLAY ON (to be released November 2 in Singapore and various parts of Asia, and November 3 in the U.S.). While in Singapore, Underwood performed for fans as part of the grand opening of ION Orchard, an iconic and luxurious shopping center with futuristic and internationally award-winning architecture, also the largest open-air sheltered venue in the city. The concert was broadcast live throughout the city and was also screened on the ION Orchard’s façade.
DAVID NAIL HAMMERING AWAY AT TOP 10
David Nail is moving steadily towards the Top 10 as "Red Light" moves up to top 13 and rising. He's rightfully pleased with the progress of his second go-around as a solo artist.
What's interesting is that, back in 1993, Mercury Records broke two new stars when they promoted a trio of singer-songwriting solo artists with their "Triple Play" promotion of Shania Twain, Toby Keith and John Brannen. They scored two superstars out of three with that deal, so, in 2002, they tried a triple play again simultaneously promoting three new young singer-songwriters, Anthony Smith, James Otto and David Nail.
None of the three broke out as performers, but continued successful songwriting careers. Eventually Otto broke through with the song of the year in 2008, and now David Nail is heading towards the top of the charts again...and, belatedly, that second "triple play" is heading towards two out of three again.
Nail tells us that he's a whole lot more ready for what seems headed his way thanks to the life experience he's gathered since then that is reflected in his new album and latest hit, "Red Light. |

GARTH BROOKS STEPS BACK ON STAGE IN LAS VEGAS
cf.com On October 15th, the country music press corps were greeted by Garth Brooks in Nashville to begin telling them about his decision to step back on stage and sorta coming out of retirement. They were then loaded onto a chartered jet and flown to Las Vegas to continue the conversation with Steve Wynn, owner of Wynn Las Vegas and Encore hotels, who joined Garth on stage at the new Encore Theater to officially announce that he'd talked Garth out of retirement for a special series of concerts. Garth will go to work periodically delivering a variety of very personal shows, most of which will be one man and his guitar. The first concert will take place December 11th.
Garth told countryforever.com he had actually been reluctant to talk to Wynn who wanted Garth (who he described as the best live life show he'd seen since the Rat Pack) to perform in his luxurious hotels.
Garth said, "I swear this was one of those things where I said, I'll go and meet him and then I'll come back and tell my wife 'I met him and that was it,' I thought he'd be this shallow guy that thought money was going to be the answer to everything. But boy was I wrong, because he came from family and music and did he ever catch me off guard in the things that he said. And, every time we'd come to point where I thought this would reveal what he really wants, he say something sweet that would pertain what's best for the family or the music...for instance I figured if I said, 'We're three months into this thing and it's not workin' then what do I do?' And he said, 'You quit and walk away. I'd like you to do the shows that are sold but even if you don't do those we'll cancel and you walk away we want you to be happy."
Garth said the only stumbling block after that was ticket price. Garth wanted to do what he does on the road, he keeps his prices low and everybody pays the same price a ticket. After that the final issue was settled he could do Wynn's gig and still keep his commitment to his children of being there for them until the each turned and headed off to college. At this point during the press conference, Steve Wynn jumped in, "That's because I bought him a plane!" So, Garth can be home at any time in a couple of hours and that helped seal the deal.
Garth then told CF.com, "That's when the thing began to slide from "Is this is a deal that's too good to be true?'...to 'is this a deal too good to pass up?' "
Tickets on Sale Saturday, October 24 at 8 a.m. PT Steve Wynn and Garth Brooks announced that Brooks will perform in the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas for a series of special engagements. Concerts begin December 11, 2009. Tickets go on sale Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 8 a.m. sharp PT (9 a.m. MT, 10 a.m. CT and 11 a.m. ET). cf.com Brad Paisley surprised a lucky fan Saturday night at his American Saturday Night tour stop in Jacksonville, FL with a 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup truck for being the 1,000,000th fan to attend his concert in the last year.
Tim and Amber Brown from Orange Park, FL, with their two children James and Logan, were approached before the show and given front row seats under the guise of an upgrade and then immediately following the show were invited backstage to meet Brad – still not knowing why or what was happening. When they were introduced to Brad he posed for a quick photo and then said, “Let’s go for a walk.” As they were walking he told them they were the millionth ticket holder and he had planned something special for them. When they approached the truck Brad handed Tim a set of keys and said, “It’s yours!” Amber was overcome with emotion and speechless while Tim shook Brad’s hand and thanked him over and over. Tim is in the Navy and the couple is expecting their third child. “You just don’t know how much of a blessing this truck is to us,” said Tim. The American Saturday Night tour continues on to Tampa (Oct. 16) and West Palm Beach (Oct. 17) playing to capacity crowds in each venue before heading to New York City and Madison Square Garden on Oct. 21.
PLUS, IN CASE YOU HADN'T HEARD... BRAD PAISLEY ANNOUNCES INVOLVEMENT IN NEW TV SHOW Brad Paisley announced THURDAY that he has partnered with Zach Quinto (actor-“Star Trek,” “Heroes”), Mark Schwann (producer-“One Tree Hill”), Neal Dodson and Matt Bomer (writers-“White Collar,” “Chuck”) to create and co-produce a show, tentatively titled “Nashville,” a drama that revolves around an aspiring young female singer destined for stardom and a male songwriter whose career isn’t as certain. Paisley will be very involved in the show by including some of his hit songs as well as songs from other artists, and also appearing in the show as himself from time to time. The show is scheduled to begin airing next season on the CW network. “I’m very excited to portray the country music world of my favorite town, Nashville, by showing the exciting life of musicians, songwriters and performers – all very talented people.” says Paisley. “Look for some of your favorite country music stars to make their acting debuts on the show – either by playing themselves or as a character in the script. Country songs are like great scripts already and it’s going to be fun to see how some unfold on the show.”
ONE MORE NOTE ABOUT BRAD...GARTH IS A FAN
cf.com It's interesting that Brad Paisley pulled something out of Garth Brooks' playbook when he gave a vehicle away to his 1 millionth ticket-buyer...because, as it turns out, Garth is a Paisley fan. During our conversation with Garth Brooks in Las Vegas last Thursday he mentioned Brad saying, "Paisley's stuff kills me because he's a conversationalist, he's great at that and he's about my favorite new guy. He was introduced to me at the Grand Ole Opry, he was so nice, and I got to hang out with him a bit and see what kind man he was, it was great."

CHRIS YOUNG AND SCORING FIRST #1 Chris Young talks about the feeling of earning his first number-one single. “This is just so cool for me. This feeling will last the rest of my life. For the rest of my life, when I walk into my house, I will have a plaque somewhere in my house (laughs) — probably one in every room — (laughs) at least for a little while, that says ‘Gettin’ You Home’ went number-one.”
Sitting in his record label’s office — surrounded by plaques and awards honoring labelmates like Martina McBride — Chris Young says he’s just trying to get used to the idea of having a number-one hit of his own.
“I’m still not totally realizing how cool this is. I was sittin’ there lookin’ at print-offs of the chart today, and I was walkin’ down the hall, and I’m seein’, you know, the number-ones from Martina that are hangin’ on the wall outside of everybody’s door, and you know, the plaques that have got, you know, the chart printed on it, and it says congrats on the number-one for such-and-such song. And I was sittin’ there lookin’ at those, ‘Man, I’m gonna get one of those.’ You know, I’m sittin’ there lookin’ at it, goin’, ‘I actually have a number-one song.’ And it’s just…it’s gonna take a while to fully set in.”
Chris Young says that when he called his record label’s head of promotion to ask whether “Gettin’ You Home” would go to number-one, Chris found himself being congratulated by Kenny Chesney.
“As soon as I landed, I’m down there in baggage claim, and I call him, and I can hear him talkin’ — he was somewhere where several other people were at, and was in the process of tellin’ me congrats on it, he goes, ‘Hang on! Somebody wants to talk to you.’ Hands the phone to someone, and proceeds to start talkin’ about when he got his first number-one. He was like, ‘Man, I remember, I was in Puerto Rico, and no one knew what I was doin’ there, nobody knew my song…this one guy recognized it, startin’ freakin’ out about it,’ and he said, ‘I just wanted to tell you congrats on your first number-one,’ and it was Kenny Chesney. (laughs) So, that was pretty cool. And then within 36 hours, you know, here I am in the building, today, Brad Paisley walks by and tells me congrats on the number-one. So, just how I found out and the people that I’ve seen since then has been really, really cool.”

TOBY'S LEAD OFF TITLE SONG SINGLE IS A SHOT GUN BLAST OF STUFF TO THINK ABOUT
cf.com Toby described to us his two weeks at #1 debut single from American Ride, as a song for the times, "All it does is give you an entire list, a laundry list of all the things you see on TV..from Y2K, to Sars to Swine flu, to aliens coming across the border to ...from what's going on on American Idol to what's going on in the reality shows to Michael Jackson dying, just on and on..but I love my American Ride kind of thing.
"American Ride" is Keith’s 16th No. 1 single this decade, and 27th overall since he made his chart debut in 1993. The new single's speedy rise up the charts forced Keith’s label, Show Dog Nashville, to bump up the release date for his new album by a week.

TRENT TOMLINSON RELEASES NEW SINGLE, “ANGELS LIKE HER”
Trent Tomlinson is excited to release his newest single, “Angels Like Her,” from his upcoming sophomore album, A Guy Like Me. “Angels Like Her” was written by Tomlinson with Arlos Smith and Aaron Barker and is produced by the singer and Leigh Reynolds. “This has to be my favorite song I’ve ever written,” shares Tomlinson. “I was so happy when the label came to me and said they wanted this to be the single. I love how the track turned out.” CRAIG MORGAN ON BOARD WITH SMOKEY BEAR
The Advertising Council, in partnership with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters (NASF), announced today the launch of a new series of radio public service advertisements (PSAs) featuring country star and Grand Ole Opry member Craig Morgan. The spots are to provide critical information to Americans about their role in wildfire prevention as an extension of the Wildfire Prevention campaign featuring Smokey Bear.
Morgan has recorded two 15- and one 30-second radio PSAs that are being distributed to radio stations across the nation today to coincide with Fire Prevention Week. Radio stations can locate the PSAs on Ad Council’s fulfillment website, http://psacentral.adcouncil.org, starting tomorrow (October 8th). Morgan, whose single “Bonfire,” is in the Top 20 and rapidly climbing the Country Radio charts, felt it was important to pair a strong prevention message with the celebratory song and volunteered his time to the Ad Council. “When my buddies and I wrote this song, we were talking and laughing about fun times with family and friends, and that’s what bonfires are all about,” says Morgan. “But, anybody who knows me knows that I’m a big outdoors guy, and any time you build any sort of fire outside, safety has to be your number one concern."
That’s why I wanted to work with the Ad Council to get this message out. Wildfire Prevention remains one of the most critical issues affecting our country, and whether it’s a bonfire after the big game, or a cookout when you’re hunting or fishing, you need to contain your fire and be sure it is 100 percent extinguished before you leave.”

JUSTIN MOORE'S DAY JOB HE DIDN'T WANT NASHVILLE TO KNOW ABOUT
cf.com Justin Moore grew up in a small town and did a variety of jobs from working in his family's barbecue restaurant to a roofing job. So, he wasn't afraid to work at day jobs while he was living in Nashville writing songs and trying to be discovered. But, he got a day job that he didn't want Music Row types know he had...selling meat from the back of a pickup truck.
Justin explains, "I had to work at something, I had a publishing deal but I was saving all my songs for myself, so I started selling meat out of the back of my pick up. I'd drive an hour out of town every day to do it because I didn't want to knock on somebody's door that I might be writing with the next day! I didn't want anybody important to see me in that light." We asked if he thinks he ever poisoned anybody selling meat from the back of his truck on hot summer days...and he says, "I don't know, I ain't making no promises, I'm probably responsible for a few bad nutrition incidents here in middle Tennessee, but I haven't been hauled in for it."

Taped in Nashville just days after announcing their split, INVITATION ONLY: BROOKS & DUNN features the duo performing before a small studio audience, taking questions from fans and delivering revealing and candid answers.
In this one-hour special, Brooks & Dunn perform some of their biggest hits including, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” “My Maria,” “Neon Moon,” as well as recent hits “Honky Tonk Stomp” and “Cowgirls Don’t Cry,” and more. In the informal question and answer session with the audience, the artists talk about reaching their decision to part ways after their tour in 2010 and reminisce about their twenty years together.
LUKE BRYAN'S SINGLE ONE PART LUKE PLUS TWO PARTS LADY A
CF.COM Luke Bryan says he's likely to invite Lady Antebellum guys, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood over for a couple of beers again. Especially if it results in a single-worthy tune.
Luke explains, "Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood of Lady Antebellum came over to the house one day and we sat on the porch and drank a couple of beers and wrote this song. Every couple hits that wall in their life where they don’t know where they stand. The song is not saying the relationship is over but it is saying the relationship needs to be fixed. A lot of people hear it and want to evaluate their marriage, which is a good thing."
JOE NICHOLS NEW VIDEO PREMIERES TODAY
AOL's TheBoot.com will world premiere Joe Nichols' video for "An Old Friend of Mine" on September 30th, and also feature it on AOL Music's homepage. The song is one of the most talked about on Nichols' upcoming CD release, Old Things New (street date October 27, 2009). Written by Rick Tiger and Brock Stalvey, "An Old Friend of Mine" is a deeply personal song to Nichols, as it deals with taking your last drink of alcohol, and then walking away. To capture the raw emotion of the song, video directors Rob Dennis and Mason Dixon took a note from the song itself, which was done in one take, just Nichols and a piano. They used one camera and let it roll on the artist's emotionally raw performance.
Nichols says, "Rarely does a song come along that accurately describes the pain and the power of addiction. In a lot of ways saying goodbye to an addiction is like saying goodbye to an old friend; someone who has been there for you in good times and bad times," Nichols explained.
We're not sure how all the artists and on their list will take it, but when Trailer Choir lists their influences, they include Garth Brooks, Tammy Wynette, Elvis Presley and the SONIC drive-in restaurant chain.
SO, the Nashville-based band was naturally thrilled to be invited to perform at Sonic's national convention in Las Vegas Sept. 22.
The band was personally invited by the chain's president, and jumped at the chance to rock the house for restaurant execs and their corporate vendors at Mandalay Bay Resort.
The band's Big Vinny formerly managed a Sonic drive-in restaurant, and still picks up a shift there just for fun whenever he gets home to tiny Linden, Tennessee.
ALSO, Trailer Choir had yet another high profile gig Sept. 27 when they performed at a NASCAR race at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware. Their hour-long set held the crowd riveted while parachute divers were jumping from planes and the drivers for the race were being announced. The group also performed the pre-race national anthem, which was nationally televised on ABC. Meanwhile, the band’s hilarious video for its current single, "Rockin' The Beer Gut," continues to consistently beat all opponents in CMT's popular Power Pick battle of the videos feature.

AND HERE'S A VIDEO YOU SHOULD HELP GO VIRAL!
I got this wonderful, crazy music video in my email from Luck Media, created by John Chaffee, broadcaster-turned songwriter, and lead performer of a clip titled, "Play By the Rules a video for frustrated Americans."
The video features a song John Chaffee wrote when he became frustrated with all the political scandals, lies, rough house politics flying back and forth between political parties, not-to-mention everywhere else politicians and partisans are bickering and battling, cheating, are incompetent, where principals are tossed out throughout America...plus, he includes financial scandals, to common folk who are cheating on taxes, in schools and so on. What to do? "Play By The Rules!
The clip figures Chaffee's recitation as a rather beat up and tattered Uncle Sam supported by crazy carnivalesque characters. It takes no prisoners and makes its point in this clever video directed by Ted Sikora.

Shot on location at the Tennessee Air National Guard in Nashville, TN, the video features real soldiers and their families and Trace’s family (wife, five daughters, granddaughter and son-in-law) make cameo appearances, as well. Deaton and Flanigen crafted the video with an emotional surprise element at the end.

BLAINE LARSEN IS BACK WITH HOT NEW SINGLE
Blaine Larsen was just 18 in 2004 when he released his first three singles including a high impact, heart-tugging song about teen suicide, "How Did You Get That Lonely"(#18). After that, he says he temporarily pulled the plug on his career to let a little more life happen.
"The break I've taken the last few years was intentional. I wanted to make sure my third studio album was right. I wasn't under a lot of pressure to record, I'm still pretty young (now 23), and I said, I want to make the best possible album that I can make. So I took some time off to write, look for some songs and live a little more life, get a little more life experience under my belt and have some new things to say. So, that's what I did, I got married, coming up on 4 years and have a little girl, Zoe, who's a year and a half old. And that's grown me up and given me a lot to talk about."
Blaine says that's why he was drawn to his new, excellent, life-affirming single, "It Did." "It's about thinking life couldn't get any better and it did. And that's the title and it's really true, it's true in my life. And, there's a lot of songs on the new album like that grow me up and give folks a glimpse at what I've been up to," Blaine concludes.
JEWEL AND PROJECT CLEAN WATER TEAMS WITH THE VOSS FOUNDATION AND VIRGIN UNITE TO LAUNCH “GIVE A DROP” CAMPAIGN
cf.com Jewel, and her non-profit charity, Project Clean Water, have partnered with the Voss Foundation and Virgin Unite to launch the Give A Drop campaign. The program will support water projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Their first venture is to help provide water to the village of Pel in Dogon, Mali. The Dogon civilization is one of the most ancient in Africa and the survival of this unique culture is being threatened by global changes in the environment. “I’m very excited that Project Clean Water has formed a partnership with the Voss Foundation and Virgin Unite to help people in need,” said Jewel. “When I was homeless, I became ill and couldn’t afford to buy the bottled water I needed for my sick kidneys. I realized then that it was hard to get clean drinking water in the United States, and discovered it was a huge problem globally.” “Together we will be able to bring clean drinking water and all the associated health and societal benefits to so many more African communities. Access to clean water is literally vital to a productive and meaningful life.” The Give A Drop campaign works through website and text donations. Visit www.giveadrop.com or, to make a $5.00 donation, just pick up your cell phone, text the message “DROP” to phone number 85944.
